Sailing into 2017!

Reflecting on 2016

At this time of year we appreciate the quiet moments, we have a chance to pause and think back on all the good times of 2016.

To start with, we have had an excellent year of sailing on San Francisco Bay! Every year our team works to create new ways to share the beautiful Bay Area and California Coast with our guests in unique, special ways. This year we had added a few new experiences to the list…

To the Lighthouse
We introduced a weekly sail to Point Bonita Lighthouse aboard the Schooner Freda B. Our Sunday Morning Eco Sail along the Marin Headlands is one of the most raved and reviewed public sails we offer. In spring of 2016 we were blessed with numerous, incredible whale sightings right here in the Bay and just outside the Golden Gate.

Bloody Mary Sails
We also brought on board our new favorite libation from our friends at Hanson Vodka of Sonoma. This local, organic ingredient is the star of the new Bloody Mary Sails. These very special offerings happen only a few times a year, including the – New Year’s Day Bloody Mary Sail and the ever popular: Opening Day on the Bay 2017 in April. Hanson of Sonoma is produced by the same family that owns and operates the Hanson Gallery of downtown Sausalito.

Moonlight on the Bay
The Crew, and all our clients enjoyed our many sold-out Full Moon Sails in 2016, and they are already looking forward to sailing this monthly excursion with those who know to secure their tickets early again in 2017.

Go Giants
We had so many great times in McCovey Cove cheering for the SF Giants. Our Mondays in McCovey series is always a fan favorite and we are excited for the SF Giants Home Opener in 2017. Our Giants made a good run for it in 2016, and though we couldn’t quite make the World Series, getting the Wild Card and watching great baseball be played was definitely a high point of 2016 for us.

The Island
This year allowed us to bring so many fun folks to the stunning shores of Angel Island for our popular Lobster Feeds, Paella Parties and Island BBQs. These expeditions are such a great day for the crew and clients alike, we just wish we could do them every day! While still on the hunt for the fabled island mermaid, we continue to delight in epic meals, hikes and vistas found only here. We’ve scheduled our second annual public island event for October of 2017: 10/22 Island Lobster Feed. It is a great day to visit the Island and celebrate Freda B (the woman) on her birthday.

Offshore!
We sailed Freda B offshore to the Channel Islands for a very special Thanksgiving at Sea adventure. On Thanksgiving morning roughly 1000 dolphins were spotted dancing on our bow. We were joined by our friend Russ Bradley as the ship’s naturalist and he did not disappoint! Everyone on board agreed that a Marine Biologist such as Russ brings a wealth of knowledge that was a vital addition to this amazing journey. Once on anchor at the islands, he even took a few lucky sailors to explore the kelp beds on our new dinghy. Guests were able to experience an intimate expedition of the Pacific between SF and LA with the comfortable, steady Freda B as their home for 5 days, not to mention we had our number one Sea Chef, Dr. Jones aboard! He worked hard with our in-house hospitality team to keep everyone well fed with his typical fresh, predominately organic, meals and snacks.

Our only regret was that we could not accommodate everyone on the wait list, but stay tuned for a special announcement in January about an upcoming trip to the Pacific Northwest in June 2017!
